In Other News...

I don't know which is more unbelievable...the story I am about to tell, or the fact that I have strangely developed a case of Blogger-(Tour)ettes and have posted for 3 days straight! I have known about this for quite some time now, but the moment at which I learned about it precedes my Blog tenure. It just so happens I was reminded of it the other day...

(We're in the car)

W: Mommy, what did you say B (my 19 year-old and obviously from this conversation-pregnant sister) was naming the baby?

*I have the tendency to ignore my children about trivial matters while on the way home from work as I work tirelessly to make my brain shut up, my nerves calm down, and my focus shift.

(Silence)

D: (In a voice with a hue of-I know everything so you had better not question a damned thing I say!) Tsk, Delquaysia...she's naming her Delquaysia!

In the famous words of Nina and/the person she got it from, "silence my little grasshoppers, patience..." Rest assured that no, B is not naming the baby Delquaysia, and I have to friggin idea how in the hell D came up with that, but it reminded me of this...

On my previous job, I worked "in the hood." So folks from all walks of life would come to our office be it to get help finding a job, get help with/as a troubled youth, for housing assistance, and to occasionally take a "Hoe-bath" in our facilities. We all thought we had seen it ALL until 2 people signed up for a short-term program we were operating. One of the women's names was Shithead...yes, that's how it's spelled, but it is pronounced Sha-THed. And the other...you ready for this?

Marijuana Cocaine Clark...which happens to sound just the way it's spelled...she asked us to call her M.C.

Not one of us objected.

Oh, I'm supposed to comment on the blog entry...

That's so sad. Those poor people.

I once joked with my husband at the time we were talking about having kids that we should name the baby after whereever it was conceived.

NoR~You're such a sport!

NoR~I know...very sad. And somehow, I don't think I would've felt omfortable calling your child "On-The-Rocks," so I'm glad you scratched that idea---children or not!

I used to always want to have a girl and name her "Chiquita"..or a boy and name him Panama Jack..

I'm going to make a shirt that says "Tera: One of the few I'll do word verification for..."

Tera said...

Susan~Wow.

Oooh, ooh, can you make one for NoR and Nina too?!

Susan said...

I can start my own little fan club. However, MRT will be in charge of constantly updating our "Twitter O' Tera"

Tera said...

Susan~I'm sure he would proudly accept that responsibility!

What's wrong with going by your first initial, especially when it is the letter 'M'?

I am channeling my inner Gyuss when I ask this - What exactly is a "Hoe-bath" and can you post pictures?

Tera said...

MrT~In this case, EVERYTHING is right about it!

Uhhh...hmmm how shall I...como se dice...uhhhh...well lets just say washing the "pertinent" parts of one's body in lieu of a real shower!

NoRegrets said...

I always make a joke that I'd have kids and I'd call them Kay and Ed, and they'd be very special.

You know, when I used to do temp work and had no money I'd bike to the temp job in the summer and clean the pertinent parts (as TERA says) in the bathroom before going in to work. Use to scare a few women...

Tera said...

NoR~LOL! Very special indeed!

And erum...hmmm, that's all I have to say about that!

NoRegrets said...

Tera, I just noticed you embraced the taking over of your blog by Nina and me. It is indeed best to give into forces beyond your control...

Tera said...

NoR~I have recongized that on most occasions, my defenses are useless against said forces!

In my daughter's school there was a kid named Resin and another named Cybin (after the magic mushrooms his parents were taking when he was conceived). There are obviously a lot of hippies in our town.

Also, we had a girl apply to college here named Aquanetta.

Tera said...

Churlita~Damn! Some people have real issues!

I wonder how Aquanetta's job search is going?

heather said...

i wanna know why the hell mc didn't just go by mary jane?

if cheeks had been a boy she would have been jacob bryce and gone by jb like my dad who is jim barton.

panama jack sounds reasonable, sorta. just call him pj, like the kid if family circle.
kay and ed, now that's just mean. :)
aquanetta? seriously. resin and cybin? shithead? marijuana cocaine?

there should be a name approval commitee or something.

Tera said...

Heatherasaurus~Somehow in some strange, twisted sorta way, I think M.C. was proud of her name in its entirety!

You're right about that committee, because other names I've heard/seen that peeve me are Nautica, Crystal (like the Vodka), Porche, Placenta...and oh, get this...I was in the doctor's office one day and the mother told them her son's name was Zava. Zava right? WRONG it's pronounce Zah-vee-ay...she said, "It's Z-a-LONG V-a." I thought I would faint.

heather said...

placenta? there's no way that woman knew what the hell placenta was and ~still~ named her kid after it.

didn't know constanants could be long or short. hard or soft yes, long or short, no.

Tera said...

Heather~That's EXACTLY what I said!!! About BOTH things that is!

ts, it is a lovely picture isn't it? too bad i'm still job hunting, j's got a sweet strain right now...

Tera said...

Torrance~Somehow I knew you'd say that!

Heather~That's funny when I picked it, I realized that roughly 5% of the people who perused would not read much further than that!

I refuse to believe a word of this.

Tera said...

Alan sorry to break the news to you, but it is true I'm afraid. Every bit of it my friend.
