Two Posts In One Day!!!

Can you believe it?! And you guys had better read them both...that's an order! :)

I heard this on the radio the other day...I want to know your thoughts...

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age-appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America 's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude," has at least one DUI conviction and no college education, didn't register to vote until age 25, and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

hypocrisy...what this country was built on.

That sounds like a consistent American tale to me.

It's frustrating, isn't it? Just shows that people believe what they want to believe and that's the end of it. No amount of reality can get in the way.

J~Welcome to P&P!!!!!!!! And that's right many Americans don't like to deal in reality.

I hate to say this, but the main issue at hand is color. If Obama had a different race, things would be different. If Obama had a different last name...say a "slave" last name, things would be a little bit different (well he wouldn't be thought of as a Muslim so much). Even though our country has advanced, it hasn't advanced that much. Money may talk, but race screams.

Have you read that article on white privilege where they do a similar comparison and it's both really true and sad at the same time?

Palin scares the crap out of me because she as dumb as George W., and apparently a lot of Americans think that's great.

Tera said...

BCU~A sad truth that plagues this country isn't it?

Churlita~Palin scares me as well...the SHIT out of me!

tera--I saw this on Snopes.com and began reading it and then started looking for the origin of it. I was going to put a link to it on my blog, but then got sidetracked. Glad you put it up. I think it crystallizes so many points of hypocrisy about the republicans and their double standards. I respectfully disagree with beautifully.conjured.up: i don't think that race is a main issue, or there wouldn't be such a tidal wave of young people enthusiastically voting for obama. he wouldn't have gotten the nomination of a major political party. there will be plenty of people who won't vote for him because he is part black, of course, but those would be there anyway. just the same as the ones who wouldn't vote for hillary because she was a woman, or who wouldn't vote for a catholic or a jew or whatever. obama has crossed a lot of racial lines among people who i would have never guessed would vote for a man of color or other ethnicity. the "muslim-sounding" last name isn't as big an "aha" to the rednecks looking for a reason as his middle name, and like i said, they are just looking for a reason. they wouldn't vote for him anyway.

Its what republicans do best Tera. Its how they win elections despite being a minority in this country. The only way to beat them it seems is to play their game. Very unfortunate but it is the way things are. Kerry refused to play the game and he lost. While I am not coming out and endorsing a particular party or candidate (I have my reasons), I must say that it annoys me how republicans keep claiming that Obama wants to raise taxes even though that isn't what his plan says. Say that his plan won't work, attack it however you want but dont try to put words in his mouth.

i think obama's mixed heritage is working ~for~ him, not against him. the possibility of having something other than some old white guy in office has galvanised the country in ways little else can. young adults have the benefit of being raised in a time where prejudices based on race are diminishing. (yes, there is still a long way to go. but look how far we've come in the last 50 years or so. we'll get there. and if obama can get into office and do at the very minimum, a respectable job, he will have provided a major step forward for us all to follow.)
~if~ i were completely brain dead and not in anyway offended by mccain's bullshit smokescreen of a vp choice and the pros and cons collums of the two candidates were similar, i would vote for obama. if i were honestly confused and not sure who i thought would do the better job, i would vote for obama. why? because it is time that our highest government offices reflected our nation. we are ~not~ all old white guys. some of us aren't old. some of us aren't white. some of us aren't guys. and some of us, well, just don't fit into any of those catagories. fortunately with all the reading i've been doing over the last few weeks trying to cram something that resembles political knowledge into a brain that would much rather be filled with drink recipies and smartass remarks, i've come to the conclusion that the candidate that best represents me and my beliefs, is also the candidate that i believe will do the most towards healing a wound our country has allowed to fester for far too long.
so yeah, i don't have a problem with someone being nicknamed 'first dude'.
i do however have a problem with 4 more years of busholitics.

Heather~Very well written. Simply marvelous.

Nina~I second that motion.

What took me so long to read this one? And I heard that other article read over the air in my car with the same type of comparisons and damn near ran off the road. What J@Jellyjules said really rang the bell for me. People will believe what they want to believe.

I'm giving this election over to God. seriously. When I want something so badly that I taste it day and night, but I have no more control than a single vote--while I hear from left, right, and center about politic conspiracies, rigged voting booths, and mudslingations I just give it over to a higher power. If God wants the country to pitch over into a mudhole of self-destruction, then he'll allow the [deleted, lol]s to get into office. After that, I'm going to get my life right and wait on the Second Coming, because surely the world will be ready to end if that happens.

I'm with you. This shit gets up one side of my nerves and down the other. But you know whats the most recent thing that's pissed me off. McCain's repetative use of the phrase... "What Senator Obama doesn't understand is..." Or variations on that. It's as if his campaign planners think that if the man just says that enough - all the ingnorant voters out there will just start to assume it is true.

Tera said...

NoR~(Days later) Of course girl! Where you been???

Alan~"When I want something so badly that I taste it day and night, but I have no more control...I just give it over to a higher power." Amen brother! :)

P.S. I'm totally fucking using that!

im sorry but what the heck the reason you are so confused is because all u listen to is liberal media i encourege everyone to accually look into the plans of barack i mean how the heck is spending 200 billon dollors going to help the education system. why give all the teachers a raise when they dont deserve it. if the goverment is so corupt why make it bigger. this is a classic example of goverment workers at the dmv the other day it took 3 hours to get a new lisense

Balancing the Media said...

it is the freakin left(the librals) that is so hpocritc read the constatusion its based on christianity and who kill babys yet get so mad at chopping down trees hello my mom would be alive if abortion was legal in the 1960s. if barack was president the world would already be lst forever the only change anyone can count on is for the worse in things if the war is working why stop this is why barack isnt the choice!!!!!

Me said...

Teachers don't deserve raises?!?

Oh yes, that's "balanced media".

Me said...

"If the war is working"?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oh forget it ...

*prays you're not old enough to vote*

BTM~Welcome to P&P...Haters are ALWAYS welcome...are you another via Alan's blog? Anyways, first of all, if you would have READ, I wasn't the one "confused," the person who actually wrote that excerpt (which was not a member of the MEDIA by the way) was, but then again, I realize Republicans are in the habit of not being fully aware of the facts in front of them...

Secondly, so you mean to tell me that teachers don't deserve a raise when they are responsible for a large percentage of what is put into our children's brains, yet athletes are paid by the millions??? Interesting.

BTM~Tsk tsk tsk...It amazes me that you are opposed to teachers getting a raise...perhaps your SPELLING teacher knew your views on that???

As far as Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice, it's odd to me that abortion is legal in many states yet I do not see any decline in the population...so I would like to see the facts on which you base your premise. And ahem...MANY people did get (illegal) abortions back then, so laws never stopped a damned thing!

The war....hee hee...I think Alan has said enough to you on that one! LOL!

Alan~You crack me up! Is this another one of yours ruffling my feathers this morning???

Alan~I too have the same prayer Brotha!

AHHH!!

Don't blame this person on me, lol!! Did that last troll come to you from my blog? Did this one?

I take no responsibility, m'dear! No no no! I don't know any of them. I HOPE!!

I'm just speaking up because I can't NOT.

LOFL about the spelling teacher!! All the people *I* know at my blog can spell, chile.

No, what happens is that when I leave a response post, I tick the box that says "Follow-up comments will be sent to" my e-mail.

So no matter how old a post is, whenever someone comments on something I've ever commented on, it shows up in my Inbox.

If I'm so inclined, I follow the follow-up post and comment also. So those trolls commented first, even on the old posts, and it showed up in my Inbox. Then I swooped down on them first because I'm sitting at work all day with a live internet connection and my Yahoo mail account open. I see a mail arrive, I read it, and I respond. This is so for all the blogs I've commented at in Blogger. I don't have the same option at Wordpress.

Then I go back to working hard.

(Hardly working.)

Which is why I need a new job.

Tera said...

Oh Alan, I was just being silly, but thanks for the explanation :) Just make sure you keep commenting and keep those damned trolls coming! They keep me on my toes my friend! :)
